Introduction
At Spitfire Audio, we believe that having the ability to choose sounds that work for you is important and thus, we have created a wide variety of brass libraries for every music maker. It is natural to feel a sense of “choice paralysis” when navigating our catalog. Below is a handy guide to our ever-growing collection of libraries featuring traditional brass instruments and ensembles.
It should be noted that this guide focuses on libraries that include brass instruments only; full orchestral libraries that also include brass have been excluded. That said, there are excellent, comprehensive brass sections in our BBC Symphony Orchestra Series, our Albion Series, and in our Abbey Road One Series, etc. We encourage you to take a look at these libraries if you are looking for an "all-in-one" package.
Free Brass Libraries in Our LABS Series
We offer a free series of libraries called LABS which includes several brass ensembles. LABS is a great way to become familiar with the Spitfire Audio ecosystem without having to make an investment. All LABS libraries run in our award-winning dedicated plugin and offer broadcast-quality sounds for composers, producers, and anyone looking to add an eclectic edge to their music. We would recommend checking out the following LABS libraries including brass instrumentation:
LABS Trumpet Fields
LABS Tape Orchestra
Affordable Brass from the Originals Series & Abbey Road One Film Scoring Selections Series
Originals Epic Brass & Woodwinds combines two related choirs of the orchestra, brass and woodwinds, resulting in two large sections beautifully recorded in Lyndhurst Hall at Air Studios in London perfect for any genre from action and adventure to fantasy. This library runs in our dedicated plugin.
Abbey Road One Film Scoring Selections
The Abbey Road One Film Scoring Selections series, designed to accompany Abbey Road One Orchestral Foundations, are modular add ons each with a specific technique of orchestration in mind giving you the ability to add the iconic sound of cinema to your scores! These libraries run in our dedicated plugin.
Thematic Trumpets, performed by four of the world's best trumpet players in Abbey Road's Famed Studio One, captures a classic, heroic sound that many composers have used to deliver main themes in countless films. Think of John William's scores for Superman and Star Wars, as well as the work of John Powell, Howard Shore, and Alexandre Desplat.
Thematic Horns, featuring a titanic 8-player horn section, is similar to Thematic Trumpets making thematic material soar with advanced performance legato patches. Also recorded at Abbey Road in Studio One, this library evokes the sonic landscapes of Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer's interpretations of Batman, John Powell's powerful brass passages in the How to Train Your Dragon series, and the thunderous brass writing of Alan Silvestri in the Back to the Future trilogy and the Avengers saga.
Grand Brass, with an instrumentation of four horns, section celli, and one tuba, effortlessly delivers the warm, sonorous, "cantabile" sound with each instrument orchestrated within its "singing range." This library is perfect for fantasy, action and adventure, sci-fi, and much more. The sound capture in this library evokes the timbral qualities present in the work of Gustav Holst, John Williams, and other composers known for favoring the brass section.
