Overview
In January 2021, we added additional content to the BBC Symphony Orchestra Core and Pro libraries only. The main additions to the Pro and Core additions are Muted Brass, as well as additional Legato programming- full details of which can be found below. BBC SO Pro has also gained an additional brass instrument - Cimbasso.
Although the Discover Plugin is also updated, please note that this library has no additional changes, apart from the ability to translate the additional Muted Techniques.

When will the update arrive?
Latest: The update is taking slightly longer than previously anticipated.
All Professional users should receive all parts of the update by Midnight GMT, Friday 15th January. If you are a Core user, you should receive the update by Monday 18th January. If that is not the case, please feel to get in touch by clicking the Help widget below. Thanks for your patience!
How do I update?
To update the Library, go to the Spitfire Audio App and update from there. When you click update, please ensure that you have selected the correct install location.
How do I update onto a second machine?
To update on your second device, go to the App, and next to each section of the library (including he plugin) select Reset to Latest Update. If you have a slow internet connection, it might be quicker to copy the library folder over to your second hard drive, and then repair the library on your new device.
Please note that BBC SO cannot be currently used on a shared hard drive between two devices. You should install to an individual hard drive per machine.
What is Muted Brass?
Mutes are objects that are placed in the bell of the brass instruments to affect the airflow and, thus, changes the tone and overall volume. There are several types of brass mutes. For this library, Straight Mutes have been used for each instrument, bar the . Creating a more mellow tone, a muted technique can be typically applied to comedic and jazz scoring, but can also applied affectively in symphonic and cinematic scores to create a sense of mystery.
What is Legato (Extended)?
Legato (Extended) is additional technique, available on some of the Wind and Brass instruments in the BBC SO Core and Pro libraries. This allows for a more refined slurred transition and tighter fast runs.

Muted Longs, Staccatissimo, and Marcato techniques have been added to the following Brass instruments in both Core and Pro:

Update to the Plugin (v.1.2.0) which allows for translation of the new Muted Brass techniques, as well as the new Cimbasso instrument.
FAQ
What was previously added to the library?
In that last update, we introduced the Core and Discover versions of this library and our revolutionary Mode Switching tool. In the 1.1.8 update, we also added Bass Flute to the BBC SO Pro library.
Is this the last major update?
There is additional content in the works - so bear with us! As always, we are committed to fixing any issues with the library that are found after release.

Please note that not all the brass instruments have been given the muted brass techniques. Check your library against the full list above if you are unsure.
If you do have missing content, this will trigger Error 4- in which case you should contact the customer experience team by clicking the Help link below.
